Emma's Favourite Websites...

Rock Watch

www.rockwatch.org.uk

Junior version of the Geologist's Association, you can sign up to get the magazine but if you don't fancy that there are always great geology news items to explore, like the scientist who studies dinosaur sick! This website has links to other geology websites sorted by subject so it is a good place to start if you are looking for some more geological information.

British Geological Survey

www.bgs.ac.uk/discoveringGeology/home.html

Information on this website is quite detailed but includes case studies of landslides, earthquakes and volcanoes as well as articles about climate change and the geology of Britain. Look out for the Geological Timescale, which is an excellent animation that takes you from the formation of our planet right up to the evolution of humans.

BBC Nature

www.bbc.co.uk/nature

This part of the BBC news website is always worth checking out for the latest nature related news and interesting stories. You can also use the search option to bring up clips and information on a whole range of modern and prehistoric animals.

ARKive

www.arkive.org

This is a good website for searching for unusual animals with up-to-date information, images and video clips. Although it focuses on endangered species you can still get information about more common animals, insects and birds.

U.S Geological Survey

www.usgs.gov

This website contains a lot of detailed information but you can also look at live volcano, earthquake and hurricane monitoring.

Met Office

www.metoffice.gov.uk

Aside from checking the weather here I also like to look at the climate change pages for facts, future predictions and finding out what research projects the met office are carrying out.
