Question of the month:

This months hardest question has been submitted by Joshua aged 8:

Are you a big fan of dinosaurs?

Here at Dynamic Earth we think they’re really cool!  We try and learn as much as possible about Dinosaurs but there are always new exciting discoveries being made so it can be hard to keep up.  One of our favourite new facts is that the T-rex’s bite was so powerful that being bitten by one would be about the same as being sat on by an elephant!  Also, the more dinosaurs we find, the more it looks like some of them had feathers.  A dinosaur dug up just last month in Northern China has tail-feathers, even though it was a big meat-eater like T-rex. Dinosaurs are amazing creatures and they were around for such a long time.  The oldest dinosaurs we have found so far are about 230 million years old (in Magagascar) and lots of different dinosaurs were around until 65 million years ago.  Humans have only been around for about the last 4 million years so Dinosaurs have been around for much, much longer than us!  About 700 different types of Dinosaur have been found and palaeontologists think there are still some out there, waiting to be dug up.

If you want to find out more check out the Dorchester Museum Dinosaur pages (www.thedinosaurmuseum.com) which has fun facts like the smallest dinosaur, ‘Lesothosaurus’, which was about the same size as a chicken, to the smartest dinosaur called ‘Troodon’.  The Natural History Museum pages are also great (www.nhm.ac.uk/kids-only/dinosaurs) and you can take a quiz to find out which dinosaur you are.  So far our team is made up of an Iguanodon, an Archaeopteryx , a Plateosaurus, a Dilophosaurus and two Ankylosauruses!
