Dino’s Outdoors: Park Life

New for 2018 we have teamed up with the Holyrood Park ranger service to bring you an exciting and engaging outdoor learning program for 8 - 12 year olds on Friday afternoons.

Over the next 6 months we will be exploring the fascinating world of the park through a range of investigative activities as well as taking part in practical conservation. Starting from the 2nd February sessions will take place on the first Friday of each month. The sessions will be largely outdoors so warm and waterproof clothing and footwear is essential. Participants should also bring a snack and drink with them.

When: 13:30 to 16:30

Where: Holyrood Park, (meet just inside the main entrance to Dynamic Earth)

February 2nd 2018: Scotland’s Time Lords

Put your investigative skills to the test in this time travelling session exploring the parks dramatic geological past. Uncover evidence of tropical beaches, rivers of ice and explosive volcanoes. Take a trip around Dynamic Earth to meet Edinburgh’s very own Time Lords and find out about the amazing discoveries they made on our doorstep.

March 2nd 2018: Ecology Warriors

Be prepared to get mucky helping out with practical conservation tasks essential for making sure the park is a great home a wide variety of life. Practice your natural fire lighting skills in order to brew up a hot drink as a reward for all your hard work.

April 6th 2018: Sensory Orienteering

Work as a team to navigate yourself successfully around Holyrood Park completing challenges as you go. You’ll need to make sure you have all of your senses at the ready to be the first team around the course! 

May 4th 2018: The People’s Park

For thousands of years Holyrood Park has been an important place for people. Get creative to discover how people used the park in the past. Explore how this is different to now and imagine what our future park might look like.

June 1st 2018: Watery Investigations

Delve in to the fascinating world that exists below water. See what amazing creatures make their home in the parks ponds and their importance for a healthy ecosystem. Warm up around a campfire with some wild cooking treats.

July 6th 2018: The Power of Pollinators

Did you know that bees and butterflies are essential for our health as well as the health of the park? Find out all about why this is and see how many different species we can track down as we put our nature I.D. skills to the test.
