Daily from Saturday 1st July – Monday 28th August 2017
With experts forecasting a heat wave this summer, we’ll be keeping our visitors cool with a host of extra Polar themed activities for the whole family to enjoy. From 1st July – 28th August, come and uncover a world of incredible experiences at some of Earth’s most extreme environments. Get your hands on a real iceberg as part of your time-travelling journey, and after your tour of our amazing galleries, enjoy additional activities included with your admission.
You’ll be able to take part in our interactive family show, with demonstrations and activities galore. Join our dynamic duo of Polar presenters on their journey to explore Antarctica and the Arctic, uncovering the wildlife that call these environments their home, how they’re specially adapted to survive the extreme temperatures of Earth’s Poles and explore the challenges that threaten their way of life. You’ll also get a glimpse into the world of an environmental scientist researching at Earth’s Poles, and find out how the Polar Regions act as living laboratories for understanding our planet.
Get hands-on with our Polar drop-in activities; explore how drones are being used in Polar research and pilot one for yourself in our flight simulator. Get hands-on with our object handling and see if you can tell your Leopard Seal from your Polar Bear. You’ll also have the opportunity to feel the chill for yourself and get hands-on with some icy experiments exploring how Penguins stay warm in the extreme cold. For younger visitors, get crafty in our arts and crafts area and make your very own Penguin, Walrus or Polar Bear to take home with you.
No visit would be complete without an amazing snap of your adventure! With the help of our green screen photo booth and some Polar expedition kit, you’ll be transported to Antarctica with our cuddly Penguin pals. Photos from the booth will be uploaded to our Facebook page for you to download and share with your friends and family.
All polar activities are free with entry to Dynamic Earth and run from 10am-4pm
