Yay! It’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe time! We love Edinburgh all year round, but it’s just that little bit more awesome during the Fringe.
The Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world. There are over 300 venues and thousands of shows. Wow.
We’re a Fringe venue ourselves, hosting Sonic Vision, the high-energy musical trip of a lifetime in our 360 degree cinema, the ShowDome. The mind-bending, mesmerising experience weaves image of space travel, astronomy, cosmic graphic mystical mandalas together to create an amazing audio-visual spectacle.
So, if you’re visiting the Fringe, we’d love you to make Dynamic Earth your first stop. There’s so much to see at the festival, we know how tricky it can be to make the most of your visit. So we’ve put together our top tips for visiting the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to help guide you through this wonderful event.
- Get hold of a brochure - there are lots of programme outlets in the city and we’re one of them! The brochure is full of all the information you need about all the shows, times and there’s even a map to help you find all the venues.
- Download the app to your phone - you can search for shows and book tickets and it’s super easy. You can then collect your tickets from any of the collection points, you’ll find a list of those here.
- Get here early! It makes sense to make the most of your trip to the Fringe and it’s especially useful for snapping up tickets if you haven’t booked in advance. There’s always lots to see on your way between venues, so take some extra time to wander through the streets and you’ll almost certainly see something unexpected and enjoyable.
- Wear comfortable shoes! Not very rock n roll, we know, but Edinburgh is quite hilly and although walking is definitely the best way to get around, it can take its toll on your tootsies after a while. While we’re on the subject, it’s a good idea to bring something waterproof - this is Scotland after all!
-No plans? Head for Dynamic Earth of course! But it’s also a good shout to visit the Virgin Money Half Price Hut - you can pick up half price tickets for that day (and the following morning). The page is updated regularly so check it out.
-Try something different. There's some much variety at the Fringe, why stick to what you're used to? Consider seeing a show you wouldn't normally pick. There are lots of recommendations online, take a look and step out of your comfort zone.
-Refuel! Remember to give yourself a break to take on some food and drink. Why not visit our Food Chain Cafe for a delicious hot meal or a light snack and some coffee?
