Planning a visit to Dynamic Earth

Next Post

Planning a visit to Dynamic Earth? Yay! We can’t wait to welcome you. We want you to get as much as possible out of your day with us, and so this article is packed with all the information you’ll need for your trip.

Opening times
Generally, we’re open 7 days a week, from 10am to 5pm. These times change during holidays and half-terms and through the winter we are only open from Wednesday to Sunday. You can check our current opening hours here. Last entry is an hour and a half before closing - this is to make sure you can squeeze as much as possible out of our awesome exhibitions!

Getting here/Parking
We’ve got a super central Edinburgh location - right at the bottom of Holyrood Road, next to the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyrood House. That’s about a 15-minute walk from Princes Street. You can take the local Lothian Buses - No. 35 and No. 6 or hop aboard any Edinburgh City sightseeing bus tour.

We have our own 24-hour car park underneath the building - how handy is that? It’s £3 for the first three hours and then £1.50 for every hour and part hour after that. If you’ve got an electric car, you can charge it up for free. Parking charges still apply.

Buying tickets
It’s easy as pie to buy tickets. You can get them online, and they’re valid for entry on any day that we’re open, and there’s no expiry date. They’re non-refundable and you’ll need to bring your e-ticket or PayPal receipt, or show one of those on your mobile/tablet. Priority queuing is available for all pre-paid tickets.

Alternatively, you can buy tickets when you arrive at Dynamic Earth. You can see our current prices here.

Our annual Explorer Pass is a great idea for making the most of everything we’ve got to offer. For less than the cost of two visits you can upgrade to Explorer, which allows you unlimited visit for an entire year, not to mention 15% off in our gift shop, 10% off in the cafe, discounts on birthday parties, priority queuing, e-newsletters and exclusive invites to our evening events.
Well worth it!

What’s On?
Our five-star visitor experience takes you on a journey through time, telling the story of planet Earth. With interactive exhibits, state-of-the-art technology and even a 4D encounter, you’ll feel the heat of a bubbling volcano, face the chill of polar ice, fly across the globe and crash land in a tropical rainforest. Phew!
What’s more, we’ve got Scotland’s only 360 degree full dome film theatre, showing a variety of films throughout the year. We also have family friendly hands on activities that change on a regular basis. Find out what’s on right now.

Dynamic Earth is fully wheelchair accessible, we’ve got ramp access up to the entrance, lifts throughout and to gain access to and from the car park. We’ve also got disabled toilet facilities on both sides of the building.

For hard-of-sight visitors we offer additional information about the exhibits on show and, for those who are hard of hearing, we offer transcripts. Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas of Dynamic Earth; however it’s worth noting that some of the galleries have loud noises and flashing lights. Please note, too, that we operate strobe lighting in some areas, which could affect those with epilepsy. Our guides can assist and advise visitors.

Our attraction consists of outstanding visuals, dramatic sound effects, spectacular music, evocative smells and amazing physical sensations, working together to provide a multi-sensory experience for everyone.

Eating and drinking
Of course, you’ll need to eat while you’re here. Finding out about our planet is hungry work! Our Food Chain Cafe has everything you need to refuel - from light snacks to hot meals. The cafe is open from 10am-4.45pm on the days we’re open. Hot meals are served between noon and 3pm. You can also pop by to try our treats without visiting the attraction should you wish.

Remember, with an Explorer Pass you’ll get a 10% discount in the cafe. Check out our family meal deals here.

How about a souvenir?
Our Natural Selection gift shop has a great range of goodies for any budget. Perfect for taking away a memento from your grand day out. Don’t forget there’s a whopping 15% discount with Explorer Passes. Have a look at what’s on offer here.

Any questions?
Phew. Well, we think we’ve covered anything, but if you’ve any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can also check out our FAQs or download our app.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Dynamic Earth. See you soon!

The body needs plenty of exercise and a balanced diet for the pancreas to properly function, secreting enough insulin. Many people cannot prevent this disease, especially if they inherit the disease or contract a viral infection causing it. The causes of diabetes vary, but the most important thing in trying to prevent it are maintaining a healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise and eating right.
