Back to School at Dynamic Earth!

The holidays have passed in the blink of an eye – we’ve had so much fun at our “Summer ‘not’ School” and on our Discovery & Adventure days, but now it’s time to focus on the new term and heading back to school. The Learning Team at Dynamic Earth are all geared up and ready for the launch of our exciting new 2018-19 Learning Programme – and we’d love you to join us on a voyage of discovery here at Dynamic Earth!

As part of our Learning Service, we offer three activities for school and education groups: our Attraction Tour, Workshops, and the ShowDome.  You can mix & match any of these, depending on how much time you have.   We offer discounted rates and a dedicated bookings team for UK Education Groups and we can also assist with your travel costs if your school qualifies for our Transport Subsidy – please ask for more details

Self-Guided Attraction Tour (90 minutes) - You will begin your journey by learning about Scotland’s Timelords, before travelling back to the beginning of time to witness the Big Bang.  You will then go on to explore how Earth was formed and shaped over millions of years, and continue your journey through the different biomes of our planet.  The 13 fully immersive and interactive galleries tell the story of Planet Earth and our Visitor Services team are located throughout the attraction to guide you on your journey and answer any questions you may have.

ShowDome (30 minutes) - Packed with stunning high-definition 360° digital fulldome technology and explosive surround-sound, our ShowDome invites you into an immersive cinema experience like no other.  We show a variety of films throughout the day, please click here for the schedule!

Workshops (45 minutes - 2 hours) - We offer a wide range of stimulating, interactive workshops which are designed to complement your attraction visit and ShowDome experience.  Our choice of topics will inspire and excite your pupils; these range from dinosaurs to volcanoes, weather and climate change, to natural disasters and outer space!  All of our workshops are linked to the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, and can be delivered from Early Years to Secondary level.  You can choose between indoor or outdoor sessions, all delivered by our highly trained science communication professionals and experienced outdoor learning officers.

And teachers - did you know that our Learning Service is not just for the pupils!  Whether you are looking for new ideas to expand your knowledge of teaching creative science, or you’d like to become more confident in delivering outdoor learning sessions – we can help you!   Learning professionals can pick up new skills or refresh their knowledge with our range of CLPL courses, which can be delivered either at your school or here at Dynamic Earth.  If you have never visited Dynamic Earth before, and you would like to see for yourself what we have to offer you & your pupils, then we can also book a free Teacher’s Familiarization Visit.

The dedicated Learning section of our website has further information on education visits and special events throughout the academic year.  If you would like to make a reservation or have any queries at all, please contact the Bookings Team by telephone on 0131 523 1273 or send us an email -

We look forward to helping you plan your next school trip!
