Get set for a cracking Easter here at Dynamic Earth and bring along your little ‘egg-splorers’ to join us for a whole host of fun-filled “egg-speriences” (groan…!) From the 31st March until the 15th of April, we will be running a programme of exciting extra activities for all the family, which are guaranteed to entertain and inspire.
First up is ‘Operation Earth’ - tying in with the Edinburgh International Science Festival. This features an interactive stage show which sees youngsters transformed into doctors, and helping to ‘diagnose’ the problems currently faced by our planet. And there are lots of other fun ways to encourage the whole family to get involved - everything from taking part in Food-Chain Jenga to becoming a drone pilot!
Our ever-popular Meet the Expert days will also be running over the holidays. You’ll have the chance to talk to scientists at the forefront of polar research, marine life and forestry, and hear their stories of what it’s like to live in some of the most hostile environments on Earth. They will also be on-hand to demonstrate the fascinating technology involved in their jobs.
And if this world is not enough, you can travel further off into the galaxy with our friends from the Cosmos Planetarium! They will be taking our lucky visitors on an amazing voyage of discovery to seek out extra-terrestrial life. Budding astronauts will need to fasten their seat-belts as they blast off from Mars and travel to the very outer reaches of the cosmos!
Now that the snow has gone and Spring has (hopefully!) sprung, why not come and join our Dynamic Earth Learning Team for some outdoor family fun? You can take part in lots of exciting challenges and explore Edinburgh’s local green spaces. Take a walk on the wild side in our outdoor ‘Nature Detectives’ workshop and discover creatures past and present who have made their home here in Holyrood Park. Or how about our fascinating ‘Wonderful Weather’ workshop, investigating our ever changing Scottish climate? You’ll get the chance to complete a weather map, take part in our cloud spotting challenge, and learn how to look for clues in nature to figure out the forecast for yourself!
And – just to top it all off - we are also opening our doors after dark! Our daytime schedule is so jam-packed, we just couldn’t fit everything in! So why not come along to one of our exclusive evening events over the Easter break, and you can experience a real cinematic treat. At our Double Dome Nights we will be showing a combination of two 30 minute movies from our library, in our spectacular 360 degree planetarium cinema, giving you a unique, immersive experience. Popcorn and refreshments will also be available!
Check out our “What’s On” guide to plan your visit and see which ‘egg-citing’ events are happening over the next few weeks - with so much on, you’ll be spoiled for choice!
