Physics Fun at Dynamic Earth this weekend!

We are so excited to once again be hosting this year’s Festival of Physics – a huge event featuring an array of interesting, intriguing workshops, inspiring talks and demonstrations, and hands-on activities which will get the whole family involved. Suitable for all ages, you will be immersed in a world where music, art and gaming meet incredible science!  Voyage to the dark side of the moon and explore big data and colliding black holes, dance with atoms, and discover the unexpected...

Running from the 25-27th October, this hugely popular event showcases many different and new ways to explore the world of science – it’s light years away from anything you thought you knew about physics!

There are loads of different things happening over the weekend - you can take part in all sorts of awesome activities and hands-on workshops, plus scintillating lectures and inspiring talks! Some of the highlights include:

Circus PhysicsProfessional performers from Think Circus will be on hand to share their skills with you in this fun & innovative hands-on workshop. Use your physics knowledge to master new skills, and your love of circus to better understand core concepts. You can learn the basics of juggling, spinning and hula hooping and the fundamentals of motion – and if you can, you will unlock a secret circus performance just for you!

Physics Ceilidh - This is a ceilidh with a twist - the award-winning Science Ceilidh band will share dances developed with physicists which illustrate their research or the physics concepts they love. The event is open to everyone, from ceilidh lovers to physics fans (or just the generally curious!) and all the dancing & science will be explained in a workshop beforehand! Come and do a Highland fling or join in with the Strip the Electron – plus all the other traditional ceilidh dances that you know & love!

Gadget Dissections - We are surrounded by gadgets in our everyday lives - toys that talk, gizmos that light up and phones that seem to know everything.    Armed with a screwdriver, and accompanied by experienced tinkerers and makers, you'll take apart these curious machines to see the intricate electronics inside. Then create incredible art as you lay out every single piece in a framed memento to take home.

Now that’s What I Call Makey-Makey Music! - Technology & music can be great friends - in this hands-on workshop you will build your own digital instrument using everyday items (including fruit!) and a ‘Makey Makey’ device.  Dino’s is Dynamic Earth’s very own Kids Club and is proud to be part of the Festival of Physics 2019. For more workshops running throughout the year, visit our website and become a member for free!

The Glimmering Glowing Reflecting Refracting Moving and Magical Illumination Show! - A magical journey into the wonder of light, brought to you by Jazzy Science – suitable for all the family!

This is just a tiny taste of the jam-packed three day programme that we have in store, and it's all happening at Dynamic Earth from the 25-27th October.  The events are FREE but some activities are ticketed and must be pre-booked - please visit our What's On Guide for more details.

The Festival of Physics is a celebration of all things science, and a chance for curious minds to find out more about the inventions and discoveries that have shaped our past, present and future… Come along and prepare to be amazed!!
