Did you know...
“Tha roinn de thopaigean airson ionnsachadh aig an taighe againn air an eadar-theangachadh dhan a' Ghàidhlig.”
Which is roughly translated from Scots Gaelic as “Some topics for learning at home have been translated into Gaelic!”
Comann nam Pàrant is the national organisation which offers advice and support on Gaelic medium education (GME) to parents. We have been working with them for the last 15 years to provide materials and facilitate visits to Dynamic Earth for Gaelic-speaking schools and groups from all over Scotland. Every spring, we hold a dedicated Gaelic Week at the centre and many pupils come to visit Edinburgh, to tour the attraction and have a hands-on, educational workshop delivered in Gaelic. We are very honoured and excited to be collaborating with them once again to help translate our home learning resources for the Dynamic Earth Online website!
Comann nam Pàrant (CnP), which means "Parents’ Organisation" is made up of a network of around 30 local groups, who represent parents whose children are educated through the medium of Gaelic from pre-school right through to secondary level. Their main aim is "to promote and support the establishment and maintenance of education through the medium of Gaelic". And believe it or not, most of the children in GME come from homes where neither parent speaks Gaelic!
The move to online learning during lockdown has posed many challenges but Comann nam Parant have put together some fantastic educational resources on their website. And Dynamic Earth hopes to support this as much as we can by facilitating STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) learning within the GME community via our Dynamic Earth Online website. There are all sorts of exciting STEM related home learning topics now available translated into Gaelic, with fun and fascinating activities relating to Space, the weather, rainforests, oceans and lots more... Go check it out now!
