You will need:
1 x round washing up bottle or 2l drinks bottle
Scissors or knife
- Cut the bottle in half and the bottom half forms your rain gauge.
- You will need to secure it somewhere where it will not blow over. You could put it inside a bucket of sand. Be sure to put your rain gauge in an area away from buildings or trees which may shelter it from rain fall.
- To measure the amount of rainfall in a day dip the ruler into the bottle and carefully read off the depth. Remember to take account of the end of the ruler which may not have any markings on it. For example you may have to add on about 5mm to each of your measurements.
