Explore the mysteries of the deep ocean in this outdoor photography exhibition that tells the story of marine science in Scotland, from its earliest beginnings to the present day.
Meet Edinburgh’s unsung hero, Charles Wyville Thomson whose pioneering exploration of Scotland’s marine environment in the 19th century launched the modern science of oceanography. Find out how his legacy has continued to lead to fascinating discoveries today. Marvel at the investigations of researchers working in Scotland right now and discover how scientists get to and study such remote, deep locations and the amazing habitats and creatures they find there, like Scottish cold-water coral reefs. Gain an appreciation of how the deep-sea is connected to the health and well-being of us all and how we can embrace collective responsibility for its future protection.
The exhibition is for all ages and accompanying it will be ocean-themed drop-in children’s activities including augmented reality colouring-in and a coral reef survey game.
