Join volcanologist Dr Isla Simmons on a walk around Holyrood Park to discover Edinburgh’s volcanic past.

Unravel the fascinating volcanic history of Edinburgh in this exciting geology walk of Holyrood Park with volcanologist, Dr Isla Simmons. Learn how geologists look for clues in the rocks around us to discover how they were formed. Uncover the volcanic past of Arthur’s Seat, while considering what Edinburgh would have been like over 300 million years ago. Explore the different types of volcanic activity that occurred at Arthur’s Seat, from explosive eruptions to gentle effusion of lava, by observing the range in rock types preserved in the park. And find out how Arthur’s Seat and the Salisbury Crags were formed by very different volcanic processes.
